Don was on a family holiday in Prince Edward Island, Canada, when he captured the incredible moment a huge basking shark swam right up to a boat.

The filmer told Newsflare: "I’ve been going to the island every few years since I was a child. We go deep sea fishing every time we visit the island.

"On July 3, my partner, three adult children and I were on chartered deep sea fishing boat with other guest. On our way back to the shore we spotted some birds flying around what appeared to be whales however as I zoomed in with my camera on my iPhone 16 I quickly realised it was a shark.

"The captain confirmed we were witnessing a basking shark. He turned off the engine and after a minute or two, the shark started to approach our vessel. As it got closer I realised how large it was. The captain said it was approx 30-foot-long and he hadn’t spotted one in the area since the late 1990s."

My reaction is a bit embarrassing however there were young children on the boat. I was stunned by the size of this shark and how close we got to it. Holy Sugar! My wife spotted some birds circling around what the captain thought were baby whales. I immediately suspected it was a shark. It was indeed a 20-30ft basking shark. It circled our boat for several minutes. It was an incredible experience.
