Journalists waiting in the area for coverage were directed by Secret Service officials to the James S. Brady Briefing Room inside the White House. While there has been no official statement from the White House regarding the incident, social media claims alleged that an unidentified person threw an unknown object into the restricted area. Following a short period of heightened security, the area was reopened to press members at 11:56 a.m. local time.
