Protesters Demand UK Apology for Historic Forced Adoptions

Campaigners gathered today, 16 July 2025, to protest the legacy of historic forced adoptions in the UK. Holding powerful banners reading messages such “It was not my choice to be chosen – where were my human rights?”, the protest highlighted the lifelong trauma experienced by many mothers and adoptees. Another banner read, “Dying for an apology,” emphasising the urgency of the issue as those affected grow older. Protesters called on the government to acknowledge and apologise for adoption practices that continued into the 1980s, where young unmarried women across England were.
