VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS CHANTING, HOLDING BANNERS AND FLAGSCAESAREA, ISRAEL - JULY 19: Hundreds of Israelis staged a protest near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea, near the city of Haifa, on Saturday, July 19 calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, a hostage exchange deal, and the resignation of the government. Protesters held photos of captive relatives and banners reading “Stop stalling” and “Deal now,” while two vehicles damaged by Gaza rocket fire were brought to the scene as symbols of the ongoing conflict. Former soldiers, political activists, and opposition figures also joined the protest, urging the government to swiftly implement a comprehensive prisoner swap agreement. Israeli estimates that 50 hostages remain in Gaza, including 20 believed to be alive. At the same time, over 10,800 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, where they face torture, starvation, and medical neglect that has led to multiple deaths, according to Israeli and Palestinian rights groups and media outlets. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 59,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and a spread of disease. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
