-BEIRUT, LEBANON - JULY 23, 2025: Lebanese citizens gathered in the capital Beirut on Wednesday, July 23, to call for an end to Israel’s blockade of Gaza and reopening of Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. Protestors rallied near the Egyptian Embassy, where police took extensive security measures. Some demonstrators also banged kitchen utensils to draw attention to the severe hunger crisis unfolding in the besieged enclave. The Health Ministry in Gaza said on Wednesday that 10 more Gazans starved to death in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from starvation since October 2023 to 111. In March, Israel abandoned a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas and has since kept Gaza’s border crossings shut, leaving humanitarian aid trucks stranded along the frontier. As Israel has continued to close all Gaza’s border crossings, aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among Gaza’s 2.4 million inhabitants. Israeli forces have killed more than 59,100 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, collapsed the health system, and led to severe food shortages. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
