STORYLINE:
Egypt has strongly condemned the Israeli bombing of the Al-Taba'een School, which housed displaced Palestinians in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of eastern Gaza City.
The attack occurred early Saturday morning and resulted in the deaths of over 100 Palestinians and injuries to dozens more.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry declared that Israeli assaults on Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip represent an unprecedented disregard for international and humanitarian laws.
The statement called for a unified and effective international response to protect Palestinians and end the targeting of defenseless civilians.
Egypt condemned the deliberate killing of large numbers of unarmed civilians, particularly amid intensive efforts to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza.
The bombing came just hours after leaders of Egypt, the U.S., and Qatar issued a joint statement calling on the Israeli government and Hamas to resume ceasefire talks next week.
Egypt's Foreign Ministry asserted that the attack is clear evidence of Israel's lack of will to end the "fierce war." Furthermore, Egypt deplored the humanitarian crisis in Gaza that the international community has been unable to resolve. The ministry stressed its continued diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire and for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, Egypt has led efforts to deliver aid to civilians who are on the brink of starvation amid an Israeli blockade. The Egyptian government has also been at the forefront of attempts to achieve a ceasefire and a deal for the exchange of captives.
