- TRIPOLI, LIBYA — JULY 26, 2025: 1,500 migrants were detained in a security operation on Saturday, July 26, targeting undocumented migrants working illegally in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, according to Labor Minister Ali al-Abed.

The operation, which took place in more than 20 locations simultaneously in the Al-Sabaa district in the early hours of the morning, was also attended by al-Abed.

Abed stated that raids were carried out in residential areas densely populated by foreign workers in Al-Sabaa and that undocumented migrants of various nationalities—working without a work or residence permit and without any health documentation—were apprehended.

In July 2024, Libyan Interior Minister Emad Trabelsi estimated that the number of migrants in Libya could exceed 3 million, with an influx of 90,000 to 120,000 migrants entering the country monthly via the desert.
