Demonstrators demanded the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. The demonstrators, carrying Palestinian and Libyan flags and holding banners reading “O Egyptians, we need a bag of flour,” “The Egyptian regime is complicit in the starvation,” and “Security cooperation with the Netanyahu regime is a war crime,” also chanted slogans such as “Children in Gaza are dying of hunger,” “O Egypt, open Rafah,” and “Egypt, allow humanitarian aid in.” Libyan producer and writer Mohammed Shinibe, who attended the protest, told an Anadolu reporter that Egypt must immediately allow humanitarian aid into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. Shinibe emphasized that at the year 2025, children are dying of hunger when Egypt has a border crossing to Gaza but aid is going to waste at the gate on Egypt’s side. The Libyan producer said that Egypt is the only country with a border crossing into Gaza and called for the crossing to be opened to let the aid in, "And then we can talk about political efforts, about negotiations," he added. Five more Palestinians died in Gaza in 24 hours from malnutrition, bringing death toll from Israeli-induced starvation to 127 since Oct. 2023, according to Palestinian Health Ministry. The situation in Gaza is growing increasingly dire. Visual evidence circulated on social media shows Palestinians appearing emaciated, suffering from extreme hunger, nausea, fatigue, and loss of consciousness. On Tuesday, the UN World Food Programme warned that one-third of Gaza’s population has gone days without food due to the ongoing Israeli blockade. Since March 2, Israel has also avoided following through on a truce and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas and has kept Gaza’s border crossings shut, leaving life-saving aid trucks stranded at the gates. According to Gaza authorities, a minimum of 500 aid trucks and 50 fuel trucks are needed daily to prevent total collapse. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing over 59,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
