SANTIAGO, CHILE - JULY 26: Hundreds of relatives and friends of those detained and disappeared during the Operation Colombo marched through the main streets of Santiago, Chile, on Saturday (July 26).
They carried banners, chanted slogans and commemorated the 50th anniversary of Operation Colombo which happened during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet between 1973 and 1990.
This year marks, a communications montage designed by Pinochet's secret police to cover up the arrest and disappearance of 119 opponents of the regime.
Fabiola Miranda, one of the protesters, said "The 119 were young militants from different political parties, Socialists, Miristas, where at the time—I'm not quite sure what year— they were reported in national media outlets such as El Mercurio, where they appeared in the news as having been killed in a confrontation in Argentina, which was false.”
