Demonstrators gathered at the port, holding banners and chanting slogans condemning Israel’s military operations in Gaza. In response, some passengers on board waved an Israeli flag from the balcony. Greek authorities responded to the protest by using force against the crowd, detaining multiple participants, and securing the area around the ship to ensure control. At least 59,921 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Monday. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 8,755 people and injured 33,192 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
