As part of the official program in the capital Lima, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte departed the Government Palace in the morning to attend the traditional Te Deum mass held at Lima Cathedral.
Later, Boluarte addressed the nation in a speech delivered at the congress to mark the country’s 204th Independence Day.
During the celebrations, a group of protesters gathered in front of the congress building to demonstrate against Boluarte’s government.
The demonstrators highlighted the deaths that occurred during Boluarte’s tenure and rising insecurity in the country, calling for her resignation.
Clashes occasionally broke out between protesters and police.
