Gdańsk, Poland - July 26, 2025 A member of the climate activist group Ostatnie Pokolenie interrupted the Lechia Gdańsk vs. Lech Poznań match on July 26 by storming the field wearing a shirt with the words “Lex Ostatnie Pokolenie” and fastening himself to the goalpost using a zip tie. The group chose the match because President-Elect Karol Nawrocki is a known fan of Lechia Gdańsk and was expected to be watching. They are demanding that he launch a legislative initiative and sign a proposed bill to rebuild Poland’s railway and bus transport systems—key demands of Ostatnie Pokolenie. “The result of the match is clear: climate versus humanity. We are losing species after species, forest after forest, life after life,” said 23-year-old Stanisław Kur, who carried out the pitch invasion. “Lex Ostatnie Pokolenie is a step toward avoiding catastrophe. This is a game for everything.” Dozens of other protesters held signs and union flags in the stands, while crowds sang, “Lift the ban, now, for Gaza,” and applauded speeches urging action. Protesters emphasized that climate breakdown, floods, heatwaves, and crop failure are already affecting Poland due to the use of fossil fuels. Kur added: “If you take away the SKM trains, who knows how many Lechia Gdańsk fans—even friends of Karol Nawrocki—would be able to get to the stadium today? Maybe the stands would be empty.” Ostatnie Pokolenie says their proposed law would stop the growing emissions from car transport—currently the fastest-rising source of CO₂ in Poland and Europe. It would also rebuild public transport devastated by post-1989 economic changes and reduce dependence on foreign automotive giants and hostile oil regimes. Spokesperson Filip Gajda said: “We’ll do everything we can to get Lex Ostatnie Pokolenie into parliament this year. We’re not left or right. We’re looking for someone who cares about the safety of Poles and has the courage to protect this country from climate collapse. If Karol Nawrocki wants to be the president of all Poles, he must prove it by standing with the excluded, not the powerful.”
