Nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum) belong to the family Ginglymostomatidae and have a global conservation status of Vulnerable according to the IUCN List of Threatened Species. While considered of least concern in the United States and The Bahamas, nurse sharks are near threatened in the western Atlantic Ocean due to vulnerabilities in South America and threats across Central America and the Caribbean.
