[Voiceover] Chinese shipbuilders have just completed and delivered a so-called 'mobile ocean ranch'… a massive aquaculture vessel that can cultivate up to 2,800 tons of fish annually. The vessel, named Senhai Pioneer is a converted Panamax bulk carrier that now houses seven large aquaculture tanks to breed both cold-water and warm-water fish like Atlantic salmon, yellow croaker, and grouper. The Pioneer's most special feature, engineers say, are the openings along the sides and bottom of the hull that allows the water in the tanks onboard the vessel to be directly exchanged with sea water. [Soundbite] Pan Ying, senior engineer, Shanghai Rules and Research Institute, China Classification Society: "This represents a special vessel type pioneered by China, offering the world a new Chinese solution for deep-sea aquaculture." [Voiceover] Developed in part by the Shanghai Rules and Research Institute of China, the vessel is almost 225 meters long and more than 32 meters wide and can hold nearly 80,000 cubic meters of water. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
