During a sunny beach day in Waikīkī, T.J. Hall, 26, learned the hard way that Hawaii’s waves don’t always play nice, even in the shallows.

Hall is seen attempting to leap into what he thought was a safe, shallow section of the ocean near the Waikīkī Beach Walls. But the powerful shorebreak and deceptive depth had other plans. Mid-jump, there’s a split-second where Hall’s expression shifts, a clear “I’ve made a mistake” moment, before he hilariously lands flat in the sand.

Fortunately, Hall was not injured.
