Dramatic drone pictures show a detached home left as a pile of rubble after being obliterated in a huge gas explosion.

Emergency services were called to the village of Otterton in Devon, after locals reported hearing a 'huge bang'.

The home was still burning when they arrived and all that now remains is a mountain of rubble.

Police say the homeowner wasn't in at the time but 'saw the explosion' from her window at work.

Pictures taken today (Tues) shows the full extent of the damage, with the structure and homeowner's possessions complely gone.

Fire crews initially attended the address in Ladram Road at around 11.30am on Monday.

Inspector Mat Helm, of Devon and Cornwall Police, has also confirmed that the house has been "completely destroyed"."

He said: "We were able to work out very quickly that there were no people and no pets in this property."

He added: "The owners are local business owners as well."

"The female owner actually saw it from the window of her business and didn't realise that it was actually her house."

"It's devastating, you don't know how to process something like this, it's your entire life, it's all your personal property. "

"Unfortunately, being an explosion, it has distributed it around slightly, so there will be some elements of security that we will put in place just to try to protect their dignity and their possessions."

The fire service also confirmed there have been no injuries reported and all people have been accounted for.

Witnesses said 'houses through the village were left 'shaking' because of the explosion.

Group Manager at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service Matt Radford said a small number of nearby properties had been evacuated.

He said: "The damage has been quite catastrophic to the property."

Chairman of Otterton Parish Council, Ian Simpson, said: "It was a substantial blast. People reported that houses down through the village were shaken."

He said the remains of the house was now a "pile of insulation and rubble"."

He added: "Apparently, there was insulation flying through the air and landing in people's gardens."
