This is the moment two youngsters walked into their home to discover a brand new furry friend waiting for them - two years after the death of their beloved family dog.

Danni Nixon, 42, and husband Shawn, 42, decided to give children Shawn, nine, and Suniya, six, the surprise of a lifetime by introducing them to Oscar, a Goldendoodle mix who looks strikingly similar to their previous pet.

The couple secretly planned the surprise for six weeks, collecting Oscar while the children were at school.

Footage filmed at the family's home in Columbus, Ohio shows siblings Shawn and Suniya strolling into the kitchen - completely unaware of the four-legged bundle of joy sitting patiently for his big reveal.

Both children were left stunned when they finally laid eyes on Oscar.

Suniya burst into tears before racing towards her mother to say thank you, while Shawn immediately bonded with his new best friend.

Danni, from Columbus, Ohio, said: "We had a dog for 17 years who passed away two years ago. "

"Over the past few months the kids had been asking for another dog."

"We were hesitant because of busy schedules. "

"Then a family friend needed someone to take her dogs. "

"When we saw Oscar and how much he resembled our previous dog, we knew it was meant to be."
