SMOKE RISING HAMA, SYRIA - AUG. 13: Forest fires broke out in Latakia and Hama cities of Syria due to extreme heat, according to the country’s state television, on Wednesday (Aug. 13). Syrian state television Al-Ikhbariya reported that six separate forest fires broke out simultaneously in the two provinces due to extreme heat. Firefighting and civil defense teams’ efforts are ongoing to extinguish the fires, but were facing difficulties due to the rugged terrain, wind, and harsh weather conditions, the report noted. It was also stated that four villages in the Ghab Plain region of rural Hama were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
