SWEDISH ACTIVIST BARBARA HAGEN SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Swedish) STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - AUGUST 16, 2025: Protesters in Stockholm demonstrated against Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the targeting of Palestinian journalists covering the Israeli assaults, on Saturday, August 16. Hundreds of people gathered at Odenplan Square in response to calls from several civil society organizations, carrying photos of Palestinian journalists killed in Israeli attacks and waving Palestinian flags. The demonstrators wore black in memory of Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues, who were deliberately killed by Israel last week, and carried symbolic coffins. Carrying a banner that read “Freedom for Palestine, no to the Netanyahu and Trump plan,” the protesters later marched to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Swedish activist Barbara Hagen, who supported the protest, told an Anadolu reporter that they were there to protest the Israeli and U.S. plan to destroy all Palestinians since October 2023. Hagen said Israel has brazenly occupied Palestinian territories since 1948 with U.S. support. She added that what Israel is doing to Palestinians has turned into a horrific genocide, with civilians being fired upon while lining up at aid organizations for food and children being deliberately targeted. She said Israel continues to occupy Palestinian lands with U.S. support and acts arrogantly because of this backing. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
