Passengers walk along train tracks after power fault in Singapore
Stranded passengers walked along train tracks after a power fault disrupted service in Singapore.
Commuters were forced to disembark a coach on the Sengkang-Punggol LRT line when the electrical issue brought it to a halt on Friday, August 15.
Local media reported that the disruption began at around 8:40 am and affected all 29 stations along the route.
Initial investigations suggest the problem was likely caused by a damaged cable between two stations, which triggered a power outage and led to 10 trains stalling on the tracks.
Dramatic footage shows passengers carefully walking in single file along an elevated section of the line to make their way back to the station.
Operator SBS Transit confirmed that all travellers were safely evacuated. Train services resumed fully around four hours later.
The incident occurred just three days after a separate major disruption affected both the Sengkang-Punggol LRT and the North-East Line. SBS Transit said that the issue was due to a simultaneous failure of both the main and backup power supplies at a depot substation.
