Football fans caught on camera attacking police at stadium
This is the dramatic moment football supporters were seen attacking police officers at a stadium in Brazil.
The violence broke out during the match between Santos and Vasco da Gama at Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo on the afternoon of Sunday, August 17.
Footage shows a uniformed officer striking a fan wearing a white top, just moments before the official himself was knocked down by a Vasco supporter.
The policeman was then kicked by another individual before the group quickly fled the scene.
Military Police said officers had been stationed along Comendador Gabriel Calfat Street as well as near gates 16A and 16B of the stadium to manage the crowd and ensure safety.
At the stadium exits, officers reportedly came under attack from individuals hurling rocks, bottles, and fireworks, prompting police to respond with riot control measures. Authorities confirmed that at least four individuals were arrested.
Amid the unrest, a police horse sustained minor injuries, and a law enforcement vehicle was also damaged.
The match kicked off at 4 pm as part of the Brazilian Championship, with Vasco da Gama securing a dominant 6-0 victory over Santos.
