Storyline: The American Soybean Association urged the U.S. government to reach a deal on soybean exports with China as soon as possible, according to a letter sent to the White House by Caleb Ragland, the association's president, on Tuesday. In his letter, Ragland said U.S. soybean farmers are under "extreme financial stress". "Prices continue to drop and at the same time our farmers are paying significantly more for inputs and equipment. U.S. soybean farmers cannot survive a prolonged trade dispute with our largest customer," he said. He urged the Trump administration to prioritize the soybean issue in trade talks with China. Brazil has taken the place of the United States as China's largest soybean supplier, as China actively seeks more sources of agricultural imports amid trade frictions with the U.S. Between 2016 and 2024, the share of U.S. soybeans in China's soybean imports decreased significantly, from 40 percent to 18 percent; however, China remains the largest purchaser of U.S. soybeans.
