VLASIC, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA - AUGUST 21, 2025: A memorial ceremony was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday to honor 224 Bosniak and Croat civilians killed 33 years ago at the Koricani cliffs during the 1992–1995 war.
The victims had been detained in detention camps before being executed by Serb forces at the Koricanske cliffs in central Bosnia.
Relatives of the victims, along with officials and representatives of survivors’ associations, gathered at the site to pay tribute. As part of the commemoration, 224 roses were cast from the 300-meter-high cliffs and prayers were offered.
Seid Omerović, president of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Detention Camps Association, said the victims were first shot in the back, then thrown off the cliffs and finally bombed. He warned that similar atrocities continue to be committed in other parts of the world today.
The massacre took place after detainees were transported from the Trnopolje detention camp in Prijedor to the central Bosnian town of Travnik, where they were separated and executed by Serb forces at the cliffs on Aug. 21, 1992.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia later convicted 11 perpetrators, sentencing them to a total of 200 years in prison for their roles in the massacre.
