Israel: Mass protest in Tel Aviv demands immediate end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza (1)
SHOTLIST: TEL AVIV (AUGUST 23, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS HOLDING PHOTOS OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN KILLED BY ISRAEL 2. PROTESTERS HOLDING SIGNS AND CHANTING SLOGANS 3. SOUNDBITE (English) SUHA SALMAN MUSA, PALESTINIAN CITIZEN OF ISRAEL, SAYING: "My name is Suha Salman Musa. Well, today we gathered here to protest against the genocide, against the occupation of Israel, against the Gaza people, and against the West Bank. So this is to bring our voice loud here in the heart of Tel Aviv, to say that we are against the war, and this war should be stopped. The police was about to cancel this demonstration because we wanted to have a march here in Tel Aviv, but they decided that they will cancel the march,. But only we will have this gathering demonstration here in the Bima, in the heart of Tel Aviv, in order to bring our voice louder. So there was an obstacle. And this is not the first time that the police declined or opposed any kind of raising our voice against the war. It started two years ago. People were arrested. Our leaders were arrested because they didn't want us to bring our voice against the wall. They want to continue the war. They want to continue the starvation of the Palestinian people. They wanted to continue with the genocide of the Palestinian people. And this is our duty, at least, because we are trying to help as the Palestinians, as citizens of the state of Israel. We are gathering here not only Palestinians of the State of Israel, but also Jewish Israelis, gathering here together to bring our voice together against this genocide and this war. And yes, we have a lot of obstacles. We had a lot of pressure from the police, but eventually we are doing this, and we continue to do that. Absolutely. It's not another phase everybody is seeing. Actually, the UN had this report about the starvation — this is an official report — that what the Israeli government is doing is starvation of the Gazan people, but also a genocide of the people. The most people that were killed are civilians; they are not Hamas troops. And what we are saying here is, this is not another war. This is not another escalation. This is something that is continuing. And for two years already, there are Israeli hostages there that they are dying, who are starving. There are Palestinian kids, and they are also starving, and also dying there. So this is something different. We do not want to have another Nakba. This is what is happening now. It's another Nakba for the Palestinian people. We call upon the whole international community to do whatever they can to stop this war, to stop the genocide, to bring the hostages back to their families, to stop the starvation, and to stop Netanyahu and his government from occupying Gaza City. This war needs to be stopped. Something else needs to be done. We, as the Palestinian citizens of the state of Israel, we are Palestinians, we are Israeli, and we call on these movements here inside Israel, but also across the world, to really come together and stop what is happening now." 4. VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS HOLDING BANNERS AND PHOTOS OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN KILLED BY ISRAEL AND CHANTING SLOGANS TEL AVIV - AUGUST 23, 2025: Thousands of people took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Saturday, Aug. 23, calling for an end to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Around 2,000 demonstrators gathered at Habima Square, carrying banners reading “Stop the Genocide,” “Don’t Kill Children from Gaza to Jenin,” and “Starvation Is a War Crime – Stop It.” Protesters also held photographs of some of the approximately 19,000 children killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 7, 2023. Guy Margolin Aberjel, from Haifa, carrying a banner reading “Israel Kills a Child in Gaza Every 52 Minutes,” told Anadolu that the protest represents only a small fraction of Israeli society. “No matter how many protests, the war goes on. The genocide continues uninterrupted. Even globally, governments are not acting to stop it. In Israel, the government is all about genocide. I try to stand on the right side of history, for the weak and those being murdered. The world should be ashamed,” he said. Aberjel added that meaningful change cannot come from within Israel. “We are maybe one percent of society. Fascism is growing fast. This protest was nearly canceled. The world must act—through boycotts, economic pressure, or other strong measures—because nothing stops. The genocide goes on.” Suha Salman Musa, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, said the demonstration aimed to amplify voices against the war and the genocide. “We are protesting the genocide, the occupation, and the suffering in Gaza and the West Bank. Police tried to cancel our march, but we gathered here to make our voices heard. This is not just Palestinians; Jewish Israelis are joining to stand against this genocide,” she said. Musa highlighted Gaza’s ongoing humanitarian crisis. “The UN has confirmed that Israel is using starvation as a weapon. Civilians, not Hamas fighters, are being killed. This is not another war, it is genocide. Children and hostages are starving and dying. We must prevent another Nakba for the Palestinian people.” She called on the international community to act immediately. “Governments must stop this war, end the genocide, bring hostages back to their families, and halt the occupation of Gaza. Palestinians and Israelis together are calling on the world to intervene and stop what is happening now.” The UN-backed monitoring body, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), reported that as of Aug. 15, famine in Gaza City had been confirmed. Israel has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians in its ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, led to famine, forced migration and spread of disease.
