China: Chinese travel planners craft immersive journeys for inbound tourists
Storyline: Chinese travel planners craft immersive journeys for inbound tourists [Voice_over] As China's inbound tourism continues heating up under the country's relaxed visa policies, a new kind of travel planner is emerging, one that caters to international tourists' specific travel requests. In southwest China's Sichuan Province, a young entrepreneur named Qin Mao is capitalizing on the demand for highly customized trips. His studio crafts tailored itineraries based on distinct regional preferences: for example, cultural heritage tours are popular among European travelers while natural scenery tours are favored by Southeast Asian visitors. [Sound_bite] Qin Mao, inbound travel planner: "I scouted the scenic spots in advance, including meeting face-to-face with numerous inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. I also tried to think from a foreigner's perspective: if they traveled such a long way, would they want to experience this?" [Voice_over] Qin explained that the tailored itineraries can involve immersive experiences, like trying martial arts. One recent group of tourists from Italy expressed interest in Taoist culture, so Qin organized a martial arts class based on Taoism at a club in Dujiangyan City. [Sound_bite] Qin Mao, inbound travel planner: "They're interested in Taoist culture, so we designed a program for them that connected the history of Mount Qingcheng with the development of Qingcheng martial arts." [Sound_bite] Italian tourist: "Very nice. Very nice. Very interesting. Also, the history they told us. A very nice experience." [Voice_over] In the first quarter of this year, China recorded more than 35 million inbound tourist visits, a nearly 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
