2. HIGH ELECTION COMMISSION SPOKESPERSON DR. NEWWAR NAJME SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic) DAMASCUS, SYRIA - SEP. 3 :On Wednesday, September 3, members of sub-commissions formed for Syria’s upcoming parliamentary elections were sworn in before assuming their duties.

The commissions, operating under the High Electoral Commission, took oaths on the Quran and the Bible in ten provinces including Damascus, Damascus countryside, Qunaitra, Daraa, Hama, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zur.

Officials said the sub-commissions will select electoral college members and then hold internal meetings to review procedures and coordinate preparations for the vote.

Authorities confirmed that elections will not be held in Suwayda, Raqqa, and Hasakah due to security and political concerns, with seats left vacant to preserve representation of residents in those areas.

The parliamentary elections will be conducted through an indirect system of electoral colleges rather than direct popular vote, as decreed by President Ahmad al-Sharaa in June.
