According to medical sources, the freed captives were transported by vehicles operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, for medical checkups. Since last March, Israel has unilaterally released 264 detainees, including five women, ICRC spokesperson Hisham Mhanna told reporters on Tuesday. From time to time, Israel releases Palestinian detainees it arrested during its ongoing genocidal war in Gaza since October 2023. The Israeli army has arrested thousands of citizens from the Gaza Strip amid strict secrecy and enforced disappearances amid reports of torture and abuse. Israel has killed more than 64,200 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
