VARIOUS OF UNDERFED BABIES AT HOSPITAL ROOMGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - SEP. 7, 2025: The number of babies and children admitted to hospitals due to severe malnutrition is steadily increasing in the Gaza Strip, where Israel’s 23-month-long offensive and blockade continue to restrict access to food and medicine. Doctors say Gaza’s collapsing health system and severe shortages of food and medicine have deprived children of the care they need to survive. The lack of baby formula and essential food supplies, barred from entering the territory, has left children particularly vulnerable, with aid groups warning the crisis is worsening by the day. At least 64,368 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Sunday, Sept. 7. The ministry said that five more Palestinians died of malnutrition and starvation in the last 24 hours. This brought the famine-linked death toll since October 2023 to 387 people, including 138 children. Since March 2, Israeli authorities have completely closed all Gaza border crossings, pushing the territory’s 2.4 million population into hunger. Famine has been confirmed in northern Gaza, and is projected to expand to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in central and southern Gaza by the end of September, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Israel's military campaign has devastated the enclave. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
