A wildly creative homecoming proposal has taken Instagram by storm after a video featuring sharks, butterflies, and a whole lot of personal flair racked up over 7.8 million views.

Maelin, a high school student with a lifelong fear of butterflies and a deep love for sharks, was stunned when her date showed up at her house dressed as a shark—accompanied by friends in butterfly costumes. In a hilarious twist, the shark “fought off” the butterflies in a playful skit, symbolising Maelin’s least and most favourite creatures.

After the mock battle, the group held up signs reading “Hoco with me?” and Maelin, laughing and overwhelmed, said yes.

Ever since I was a kid I have had a very bad irrational fear of butterflies but have absolutely LOVED sharks. For my homecoming proposal this year, the guy came to my house along with his friends dressed as butterflies, and the guy asking me was dressed as a shark. He beat up the butterflies dressed as a shark to incorporate my favorite and least favorite things and to make the proposal as personal as possible for me. Then he has his friends hold signs that said “Hoco with me?” and of course, I said yes!
