Iran has recalled its ambassadors in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany for consultations over ongoing sanction disputes, local media reported Saturday. According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Iranian foreign ministry condemned what it called an irresponsible move by the three European countries to exploit the dispute resolution mechanism and push for the reinstatement of repealed UN Security Council resolutions. Iran signed the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2015, agreeing to curb its nuclear program in exchange for relief from international sanctions. The UN Security Council subsequently adopted Resolution 2231 to endorse the deal, which included a "snapback" mechanism allowing signatories to reimpose sanctions in response to non-compliance. On August 28, Britain, France, and Germany -- three European signatories to the JCPOA -- notified the Security Council that they were triggering the snapback mechanism, citing Iran's "significant non-performance."
