VARIOUS OF PLANT STAFF WORKING INSIDE FACILITY / INTERIOR SECTIONS OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTUDOMLYA, RUSSIA - SEPT. 25: The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant, the largest energy producer in central Russia, is recognized for its safety and efficiency and serves as a training site for Turkish engineers preparing to work at Akkuyu NPP. Both Kalinin and Akkuyu NPP’s are similiar in technology and since 2011, Turkey has already sent 190 students to Russian universities as part of the agreement. Located about 350 kilometers from Moscow on the shore of Lake Udomlya in the Tver region, the plant has four VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors commissioned between 1984 and 2011, with a total capacity of 4,000 megawatts. The VVER reactors have logged more than 1,000 reactor-years of safe operation. Kalinin NPP supplies 82% of the Tver region’s electricity needs and 14% of the Central Federal District’s demand, powering major cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, and Cherepovets. Operated by Rosenergoatom, a division of Rosatom, the plant employs about 4,000 people working under strict safety and training standards and contributes to local development, employing one in four residents of Udomlya and supporting infrastructure and social projects.
