France, Norway, and Finland deployed deployed a joint armed forces detachment to Denmark as part of its counter-drone efforts. Authorities also banned civilian drone operations for a week during the informal EU leaders’ meeting. Danish authorities closed airspace over multiple airports last week amid reports of drone activity, prompting flight diversions and heightening security concerns over what Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described as “a hybrid war unfolding on Danish soil.” On Saturday, the Danish Armed Forces also said that they spotted new drones hovering over several of its locations. Leaders from the EU states meet for an informal summit in the Danish capital Copenhagen. The main agenda of the meeting focuses on supporting Ukraine and strengthening European common defense. The summit takes place following reports of suspicious drone activity in the airspace of EU countries such as Poland, Romania, and Norway. In response to these developments, the EU is working on an initiative called the “Drone Wall,” aimed particularly at reinforcing air defense.
