The inauguration marks a significant milestone, coming 226 years after the tomb's initial discovery. Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, presided over the opening ceremony, which was attended by senior officials from Luxor and the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The public opening follows the completion of an extensive restoration and conservation project that lasted nearly 20 years, undertaken with support from UNESCO and the Japanese government. In statements to local media, Minister Fathi hailed the event as of global importance, reflecting Egypt's dedicated efforts to protect and preserve humanity's shared heritage. King Amenhotep III, a prominent ruler of the 18th Dynasty, is celebrated for his vast construction projects. His legacy includes the main parts of the Luxor Temple, significant additions to the Karnak Temple complex, and the famed Colossi of Memnon. The tomb itself is renowned for its vibrant and detailed wall decorations, which include spells and illustrations from the Book of Amduat—a funerary text guiding the deceased through the underworld.
