Dramatic footage shows destruction at Go Ape site after Storm Amy
Dramatic footage shows trees snapped in half and platforms torn from their bases after a Go Ape venue was destroyed by Storm Amy.
Lee Brennand, 30, was walking to the adventure-activity site in Grizedale Forest on Sunday (Oct 5) when he spotted the damage.
A video showed towers that normally sit atop trees blown over, fallen trees blocking ziplines, and parts of the assault course flipped and tangled.
The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for Cumbria and two flood warnings for the Lake District ahead of the storm's arrival on Friday evening.
Lee, who lives near Ambleside, Cumbria, said: "I was just passing by, hoping to go to Go Ape because I had been there two weeks earlier."
"But when I arrived, it was pretty clear we weren't going into the venue."
Lee added that the venue was closed and not welcoming customers.
He said: "I have no idea if they have plans to reopen any time soon. "
"It was a mess. "
"There's a lot of work to fix."
Go Ape said in a statement on Facebook its Treetop Adventure+ and Treetop Challenge courses were closed due to damage sustained in Storm Amy.
It said: "If you have a booking with us you will receive an email with instructions on how to rebook your adventure. "
"We are sorry to deliver such disappointing news and look forward to welcoming you back into the treetops soon."
