Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza on Wednesday, the second interception in a week. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) is an international network aiming to break Israel's naval blockade to deliver aid to Palestinians. Israel confirmed the vessels and passengers were safe, transferred to an Israeli port, and expected to be deported promptly. The Israeli foreign ministry called the mission a “futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade” and enter a combat zone.The FFC described the interception as illegal, stating participants including doctors and journalists were taken against their will. Israel has previously intercepted another aid convoy, the Global Sumud Flotilla, detaining over 450 activists. Gaza authorities report around 67,000 deaths since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, while Israel cites 1,200 fatalities and 251 hostages.
