Gaza Ceasefire Agreement Now in Effect, Says Israeli Military. Israel’s military has confirmed that the Gaza ceasefire officially took effect at 12pm local time (10am UK time). Israeli troops have begun redeploying to the agreed initial withdrawal line after the cabinet approved the ceasefire deal last night. Under the agreement, Hamas has 72 hours after the withdrawal to hand over all remaining hostages, dead or alive. Israel will then release 1,950 Palestinian prisoners, with the process expected to conclude by Sunday or Monday. Reports say 11 Hamas prisoners will also be freed immediately as part of the ceasefire implementation. Israeli forces have started pulling out from Gaza City and the Beach refugee camp, though some airstrikes were still seen on Gaza’s outskirts. Civilians in Gaza expressed uncertainty, questioning whether it is truly safe as sporadic strikes continued. Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya said the deal marks “an agreement to end the war,” ensuring withdrawal, aid entry, and reopening of the Rafah crossing.
