At around 8:00 AM on October 17, 2025, off the coast of Kien Giang in An Giang Province, Vietnam, a group of local fishermen successfully rescued a massive whale shark—approximately 15 meters long and weighing nearly 20 tons—after it became entangled in a fishing net.
The rescue took nearly an hour of effort under harsh sun and rough waters. The fishermen tied a rope to the whale shark’s tail and carefully pulled it out of the netted area, guiding it safely back into deeper water. Several smaller fish—likely remoras or pilot fish—were seen swimming around the whale shark, reflecting their natural symbiotic relationship.
Notably, local fishermen had rescued other whale sharks in the past, but this individual was significantly larger than previous ones, making the operation more difficult and risky.
The video captures a rare and emotional moment of marine life rescue, showcasing the skill, compassion, and unity of the Vietnamese fishing community in protecting these gentle ocean giants.
