BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA - NOV. 5: The final supermoon of 2025, known as the Beaver Moon, graced the night sky on Wednesday, offering a spectacular and golden view for skywatchers across the globe.

Scientifically noted as the closest and largest full moon of the year, the celestial event was captured, creating a stunning backdrop above landmarks worldwide, including the Monserrate Temple in Bogotá, Colombia.

According to scientists, the moon was approximately 221,817 miles (356,980 kilometers) from Earth, significantly closer than its average distance of about 238,000 miles. This proximity classified it as a "supermoon," making it appear slightly larger and brighter than a typical full moon.

The name "Beaver Moon" has historical roots in cultural traditions that used the lunar cycle to mark the passing of the year. As explained by sources like the Old Farmer's Almanac, the title derives from beavers becoming active in building their winter lodges during this period.

Furthermore, the name is linked to the history of the North American fur trade, as November was the season when traps were set for beavers, whose pelts were highly sought after.
