A content creator may have found the cure for screen addiction — by making his phone too heavy to hold. Logan Ivey, who runs @matterneuroscience, 3D-printed a six-pound stainless steel phone case that helped him cut his screen time. The concept is simple but extreme: make the phone so heavy it’s uncomfortable to use. The case is made of two solid steel parts that screw together with an Allen wrench. Before perfecting the design, he even tried taping a dumbbell to his phone. After two months of testing, he built a sleeker version that keeps all ports and buttons accessible and leaves the camera clear. The design also gives the phone a retro ‘80s brick look — a nod to the days when phones were tools, not dopamine machines. Weighing as much as a small dumbbell, it quickly becomes tiring to hold, forcing users to put it down after short use. Ivey says the case helped him save two to three hours of screen time every day.
