China: China's home prices decline in October

Storyline: Home prices in China's 70 large and medium-sized cities generally fell in October, according to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Friday. The data showed that the prices of new homes in the country's four top-tier cities -- Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen -- decreased by 0.8 percent on average from a year ago. Specifically, new home prices declined by 2.0 percent, 4.2 percent and 2.6 percent in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, respectively, and increased by 5.7 percent in Shanghai. Other major cities also reported slower declines, with new home prices down 2.0 percent in second-tier cities, and down 3.4 percent in third-tier cities. In October, prices of second-hand homes in first-tier cities dropped by 4.4 percent year on year, with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen shedding by 4.7 percent, 3.4 percent, 6.4 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, second-tier and third-tier cities saw the prices of second-hand homes decrease by 5.2 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively, on a yearly basis, according to the data. On a month-to-month basis, the new home prices of first-, second- and third-tier cities experienced slight declines as well, with the figures standing at 0.3 percent, 0.4 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively. Among the four top-tier cities, Shanghai posted a 0.3 percent rise, while Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen fell by 0.1 percent, 0.8 percent, and 0.7 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, prices of used homes in first-tier cities declined by 0.9 percent compared with that in September. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen experienced drops of 1.1 percent, 0.9 percent, 0.9 percent, and 0.9 percent, respectively.
