White House Has Apologised Over Georgia Raid, Says Hyundai Boss. Hyundai CEO José Muñoz says the White House personally apologises after a major immigration raid at a Hyundai–LG battery plant in Georgia sparks diplomatic tensions. Speaking at a business conference in Singapore, Muñoz reveals Georgia’s governor also called him, insisting the state had “no jurisdiction” over the incident. Back in September, more than 300 South Korean workers are detained in a dramatic raid that sees officers force staff to sit on the floor with their legs shackled — scenes that provoked outrage in South Korea. The workers are held for over a week before being flown home, following urgent talks between Seoul and Washington. Hyundai warns the raid delays the plant’s opening due to sudden labour shortages. Muñoz now suggests someone falsely reported the presence of illegal immigrants, saying: “That’s absolutely not the case.” Despite describing the raid as “a bad surprise,” he says Hyundai remains committed to US manufacturing. President Trump previously distanced himself from the episode, saying he was “very much opposed” to the raid, and emphasising the need to bring in foreign experts to help set up specialised facilities.
