This is the heartwarming moment a pet parrot said 'thank you' when his owner safely retrieved him following an escape.

Sophie Doromal was playing peek-a-boo with her pet bird, Blu, when he suddenly flew to the second floor of their house and fled from their home in Laguna, the Philippines.

Sophie, her sister Kathryn, and their dad, Edson, frantically searched for the runaway bird and eventually found him perched on a tree in their neighbourhood on November 17.

CCTV footage first shows the moment the Indian Ringneck parrot soared across the kitchen and up the stairs.

Upon seeing this, their house helper, who was standing behind a chair, dashed upstairs in an attempt to catch the bird that had exited through an open door, but it was too late.

This prompted Edson and his daughters to look for the one-year-old bird inside the subdivision.

In another clip, they spotted Blu atop a tree, prompting the family to whistle. Hearing this, the avian immediately came down and landed on Sophie's hand.

Inside the car as they drove home, Blu can be clearly heard saying 'thank you, babe' while his emotional owner, Sophie, was in tears.

Edson said: 'Sophie accidentally dropped Blu, and he flew up since he is attracted to sunlight. We immediately went out to search for the bird, and when we passed by a tree, we heard 'Oh my goodness' and 'peekaboo', and we knew that Blu said that. We are so glad that we found Blu, and he was not hurt.'
