Storyline: Ambassadors and senior diplomats from 22 countries and two international organizations made a tour of northwest China's Shaanxi Province Monday to Wednesday. Hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the trip offered the diplomats an in-depth look into economic, technological, and cultural landscapes of Xi’an City, the provincial capital of Shaanxi. In the Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park, the diplomats were given a detailed overview of the China-Europe Railway Express operations. The Xi'an hub has emerged as one of the busiest nodes in the transcontinental freight network. From January to October this year, the railway routes via Xi’an handled 5,063 train trips, a year-on-year increase of 16.3 percent and the highest level ever recorded for the same period. The visitors also attended the second China Railway Express Cooperation Forum on Tuesday to discuss the development of railway freight links between China and Europe. "Xi'an is a very important logistics and transportation hub. We had an excellent opportunity to attend the second China-Europe Railway Express Forum (China Railway Express Cooperation Forum), that is of great importance for many countries in the world, because this railway is a pivotal part of the Belt and Road Initiative," said Maja Stefanovic, Serbia's ambassador to China. Beyond the logistics park, the diplomats visited BYD's research and development center in Xi’an, where engineers showed the company's autonomous-driving systems and new-energy powertrain platforms. The stop underscored China's accelerating push to climb the value chain in the global auto industry. They also enjoyed immersive cultural performances at "The Longest Day in Chang'an" Theme Block, a scenic area dedicated to bringing the ancient Chinese capital back to life, and then visited the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Park, home to the Terracotta Army. The tour also included Yan'an City, where the diplomats visited memorial halls to learn about the history of the Communist Party of China. "I think now that I also learned here about the past regarding China. I think we can learn a lot from China," said Batlang Serema, Botswana's ambassador to China.
