LONDON, UK - NOV. 22: Dozens of people were detained in London on Saturday, Nov. 22, as protesters rallied against the British government’s July decision to designate the activist group Palestine Action as a banned organization.

Demonstrators gathered at Tavistock Square, calling for the ban to be lifted and criticizing the measure targeting the group known for actions against companies linked to Israel.

Participants held blank cardboard signs and banners reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action,” and staged a sit-in, saying they intended to be deliberately arrested.

London’s Metropolitan Police detained several protesters holding signs, citing support for a prohibited organization, while some demonstrators refused to answer questions or move.

Officers carried away those who resisted and took them into custody. Police have not yet provided the total number of arrests made during the protest.

Palestine Action had drawn widespread attention in June when its activists cut through fences at the Brize Norton airbase, entered the site, sprayed red paint on military aircraft engines and left a Palestinian flag.

Following the incident, then-Home Secretary Yvette Cooper initiated the process to classify the group as a prohibited organization, a designation formalized in July.

Since the ban was imposed, legal efforts to overturn it have continued, while the group Defend Our Juries launched support actions for Palestine Action.

Thousands of people have been detained at related demonstrations in recent months.
