MCADENVILLE, US - DECEMBER 1, 2025: McAdenville in North Carolina, known nationwide as “Christmas Town USA,” marked the opening of its 70th annual Christmas Lights spectacle with a traditional tree-lighting ceremony.

The month-long display draws more than half a million visitors each December, many of whom walk or drive through the town’s illuminated streets.

This year’s event again features “Dynamo 31,” named after Thomas Edison’s 31st hydroelectric generator. Installed in 1884 by the Edison Electric Illuminating Company to power McAden Mills No. 1 and No. 2, the generator is believed by many historians to have been the first electrically lit textile mills in the world.
