A Thai army band held a concert for evacuees amid the raging border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

Soldiers performed a medley of songs at the shelter in Buriram province, where more than 15,000 Thai refugees were staying on December 10.

Footage shows troops singing and playing guitars and keyboards, with some of them joining the crowd to dance along to the music.

Major General Chaiphat Ngerndeecharoen, commander of 26th Military District, said the band was sent to ease tensions and provide a temporary respite from the ongoing border dispute.

Sergeant Adisak Fakthong, 36, from the Band Platoon, said: ‘Today, I am very happy that I sang to console evacuees and reduce their stress.

‘We will perform from 5pm to 8pm daily since the situation remains tense. We hope civilians will feel happier, and I am glad to do this no matter how tired I am.'

Fighting flared up on Sunday as the Thai army claimed Cambodian troops fired on a Thai engineering team building an access road in a disputed border area.

Officials said at least 15 people, including Thai soldiers and Cambodian civilians, have been killed in the ensuing clashes, while more than 500,000 people have been displaced.

Cambodia's assault has largely been wayward, unguided rockets fired indiscriminately into Thai territory, while Thailand has used precision drone strikes and fighter jet strikes on military sites.

The BBC has reported that Thailand has provided 'compelling evidence' that Cambodia has also 'laid new landmines in bad faith' that have continued to injure Thai soldiers along the border.

Former Khmer Rouge henchman and Cambodian dictator Hun Sen - who was a leading figure in the genocide of his own people in the 1970s before assuming power in 1985 and overseeing the murder of thousands of opposition figures and critics - has repeatedly claimed that he wants peace and that Thailand is the aggressor.

Thai officials claim the ongoing border confrontations are a threat to national security and the areas must be secured.
