Storyline: The Thai authorities have strengthened border security in Chanthopphet district, Buriram province, following the latest round of clash with Cambodia on December 7. Chanthopphet District head Teerasak Boontuang said on Thursday that most residents in the region have already been evacuated, and Buriram authorities made preparations to relocate them to safe places in advance. However, some government staff still remain stationed in the district. In a farmland approximately 13 kilometers from the border, a bomb crater and shrapnels were found. Teerasak Boontuang said that the damage was caused by gunfire between Thai and Cambodian forces on Wednesday. He noted that on Wednesday and Thursday, the two sides exchanged fire at around 05:00 or 06:00 and it lasted until about 22:00, with 30 or 40 shrapnels landing in this area. "Since the breakout of the conflict, many shrapnels have fallen in this area, especially in these two days, with no fewer than 30 or 40 shrapnels. We still cannot go out to assess the damage to homes and rubber plantations because it is not safe. Shrapnels are still falling intermittently," said Teerasak Boontuang. The local government has organized militias for 24-hour patrols and conducted inspections of all personnel and vehicles passing through the area. Sanang Phoein, a militia member, said they operate in shifts, mainly focusing on the safety of villagers' property and monitoring border developments while promptly reporting any unusual situations. "We are primarily responsible for looking after and protecting the property left by villagers, ensuring its safety as much as possible. Another important task is to check and screen individuals entering and leaving the village to maintain security in the rear area," he added.
