Storyline: The Mexico-China Forum 2025 brought together more than 100 government officials, business leaders and experts to discuss expanding economic relations between the two countries in Mexico City on Wednesday. Hosted by the Mexico-China Chamber of Commerce, the high-level forum reviewed the growth of bilateral trade over the past years and looked ahead to the future cooperation in 2026. "This forum brings our members together to understand the historic moment we're in and how to strengthen ourselves ahead of 2026. Mexico and China have a very good relationship, and meetings like this help keep us united for any challenges ahead," said Hector de la Cruz, vice president of Mexico-China Chamber of Commerce. Despite a difficult year for international commerce globally, bilateral trade between Mexico and China reached record highs in 2025. The two countries have integrated manufacturing and commercial supply chains, a trend that both countries' governments have pledged to deepen in the years ahead. China's Ambassador to Mexico Chen Daojiang said the two countries should further expand the shared goals. "We look forward to jointly promoting technological exchange and talent development. Deeper technological and economic cooperation will break through traditional models and form an integrated partnership," Chen said. The event coincided with Mexico's Congress approval of import tariffs on non-free trade countries. Critics said those are measures designed to ease U.S. pressure ahead of the North American trade deal review next year. In the country's upper house, legislators like Jose Narro Cespedes insist the measure works against Mexico's long-term interests. "What Mexico needs is a closer relationship with China, because tariffs will only make our value chains more expensive. We need to begin the process of a Mexico-China trade deal and take a more multilateral political outlook," he said. As the year draws to a close, business leaders in Mexico expect deeper integration into supply chains and global trade across the Pacific. Shotlist: Mexico City, Mexico - Dec 10, 2025: 1.
