Operation Coal Shovel is an annual domestic mission conducted across Lakes Huron, Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, the St. Clair/Detroit river system, and the St. Lawrence Seaway to keep waterways navigable during winter. The Bristol Bay clears thick ice, ensuring safe passage for vessels and supporting ongoing maritime operations throughout the Great Lakes and connecting waterways.
