Man stunned as leaf 'comes to life' after picking it up during walk
This is a video taken in Guangxi Province on December 15, 2025. A man accidentally discovered a "walking" leaf outdoors. He approached, picked it up, and examined it closely, only to find that it was actually an insect. After researching, the man learned that this is an insect called a leaf insect, a branch of the stick insect family.
Its mimicry is extremely detailed, from its flat, leaf-like body to its broad, leaf-shaped legs, its entire body is specialised to mimic the shape of a leaf. It can even mimic necrotic spots and wounds on leaves, with mimicry down to the level of leaf veins, mainly to protect itself through camouflage.
